You've made some good observations with this.

We're seeing The Descent this weekend. I can't believe I've actually talked my wife into seeing it, but she's willing to give it a chance since the reviews are so generally positive. That's what made me want to see it, too. My hopes are high. The idea of a movie actually being the scariest thing since Alien??!? WOW! I admit, I'm buying the hype... but I can't wait to see if the hype is justified. I'm going to demand my money back if this movie doesn't mess me up for life. ;)Darrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17464995125248198751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21082552.post-1154877002757155192006-08-06T09:10:00.000-06:002006-08-06T09:10:00.000-06:00I'm very much looking forward to seeing it. It reminded me of Unbreakable (which is one of my favorites of his) in that they both bring fantasy/comic book elements into everyday life events and they both deal with what you said - #4, the hero stuff. It's just such a great message - that everyone has a purpose and finds completion when they fulfill that purpose.crackers and cheesehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15903450123621135348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21082552.post-1154623393185114222006-08-03T10:43:00.000-06:002006-08-03T10:43:00.000-06:00So far I've really liked everything M. I don't see what the problem with The Village was either, but not everyone hated it (Rolling Stone loved it, for example). I think it was much stronger than Signs. So I'm looking forward to Lady in the Water.Wasp Jerkyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15893089391441423862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21082552.post-1154612434830168102006-08-03T07:40:00.000-06:002006-08-03T07:40:00.000-06:00I liked it, Lady in the Water. Inky is always saying "Narf", and I had trouble getting past that in the movie! Hee hee!

Why don't people like the Village? What are they expecting? A horror movie? He's telling stories, he's not trying to scare anybody. I constantly have to convince timid friends to watch the Village ("Oh, no...I can't stand scary movies), and I reassure them, they watch it, and then they thank me. I live in a severe Bible belt, with all kinds of right-wing Law-abiding Christians, everything from mild Fundamentalists to hat-wearing, bearded Mennonites and Hutterites. The Village SPOKE to me, people. There are villages all around me, filled with people who would rather lie or die than leave their safe little haven and enter the real world. If you are fortunate enough to live somewhere free of that bondage, go ahead and hate the movie, I guess, and count yourself lucky.Paulahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06314638969031894375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21082552.post-1154589424637125632006-08-03T01:17:00.000-06:002006-08-03T01:17:00.000-06:00RC, I think you're the first person I know of who ...RC, I think you're the first person I know of who has actually liked this movie.

I want to see it anyway though, because Christopher Doyle did the cinematography (he did all of Wong Kar Wai's films, if you've seen any of those. Great work), and I'd like to see what the guy can actually do with a real budget.

That said, I still have a feeling I'm not going to like the movie.

JW

fictiondepartment.blogspot.comJWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15605215670980773233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21082552.post-1154580818658673612006-08-02T22:53:00.000-06:002006-08-02T22:53:00.000-06:00Thanks for linking to my post, husband :-)Thanks for linking to my post, husband :-)Kimberly Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01140910366697932970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21082552.post-1154544589872009542006-08-02T12:49:00.000-06:002006-08-02T12:49:00.000-06:00I haven't seen it and didn't really plan on it. Night Shyamalan's other films. I find them very comedic, I think most people take what he's saying to seriously and therefore dislike most of what he does.
