Tragedy

"...a tragedy is a tragedy, and at the bottom, all tragedies are stupid. Give me a choice and I'll take A Midsummer Night's Dream over Hamlet anytime. Any fool with steady hands and a working set of lungs can buildup a house of cards and blow it down, but it takes a genius to make people laugh."

--Jerome Wireman from Duma Key by Stephen King

  1. Not a bad point, really. Great comedy is true art. Should the Academy and Cannes have a separate award for it?

  2. @ Magnus - no way, I don't think the awards should be distinguised that way at all.

But I do think that at the heart of the matter, quality and intivative comedy that truly entertains is limited in the film atmosphere.

Additionally, I think too many people thinks it has to be serious to be "art."

  3. Wonder where that would leave someone like Wes Anderson?
