September 11th Tribute: 2,996

Someone, D.Challener Roe, is trying to get 2,996 volunteer bloggers to pay a tribute to the 2,996 people who died on the September 11th terrorist attacks. Each person who participates will get the name of someone who died and then have the opportunity to somehow pay tribute to them on their blog 9/11/06 (on the 5 year anniversary of the attacks).

I Discovered this a little while back and decided to participate. I received the name of my person today. I wanted to offer up the link to the 2996 site where you can sign up to receive a name and participate as well.

A lifelong and dear friend of mine was killed in the WTC on 9/11. In a sense, I contribute to this (making a memory of the person) each 9/11 on my blog because I make mention of her.

I think it's lovely that you've joined in on this great tribute plan.

I'm curious about this. Do they just send you a name and then you do research on the person in order to be able to give tribute to them, or do they actually send you information about who the person was, what they did, etc. I think I'd like to participate, but only if I can be sure I'll be able to say something truly meaningful and intelligent about the person.

Thanks,
Gordon

Gordon, after i said i was interested in participating, about a week later i got an e-mail with the victims name, age, where they were from, where they died, and a link to a website with more information about that person.

I think there's many ways to pay homage, even if the person you'd receive did not have very much information about them...i think that is part of the challenge in many cases.

But I think you should do it. How much information do you need to come up with someway to pay respect to the person and their family?
