Movies About Painters - now Goya's Ghost

Movies about painters - they're kind of boring but bizarre at the same time. The stories are somewhat unaccesible to main stream america but they give an opportunity for actors and actresses to play some bizarre characters. As a result, the artist bio-pics seem to get academy award nominations.

Here's the Painter Movies I can think of that have come out in recent years:

Pollock (2000)
Artist Jackson Pollock played by Ed Harris
2 Academy Award Nominations (1 win): Best Supporting Actress (win - Marcia Gay Harden), Lead Actor (Ed Harris)

Frida (2002)
Artist Frida Kahlo player by Selma Hayek (Alfred Molina played Diego Rivera)
5 Academy Award Nominations (2 wins): Make-up (win), Original Score (win), Lead Actress (Hayek), Art Direction, Costume Design, Original Song

Girl With a Pearl Earring (2003)
Artist Johannes Vermeer played by Colin Firth
3 Academy Award Nominations: Art Direction, Cinemotography, Costume Design

And maybe I'm missing some important Artists films, but these are the one's I've seen and could think of...

This year's artist film seems very interesting to me. It's called Goya's Ghost directed by Milos Forman (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Hair, Ragtime, Amadeus, The People vs. Larry Flynn, Man on the Moon).

Goya's Ghost (2006)
Artist: Fransisco Goya (Stellan SkarsgÄrd)
Also staring: Natalie Portman, Javier Bardem (both 1 time nominees and definitly with the interesting roles here...Portman playing the Muse and Javier the Monk...the pictures about are of Portman in the film)

Can we almost guarentee this movie will get Academy Award nominations...I think so. Possibly some technical awards, but especially for the two supporting players.

Javier Bardem gave my favorite performance in Before Night Falls and he's been consistently excellent in everything else I've seen him so this land on my must-see list for the year!
