If I Chose 12 Films for the Beverly Cinema

After posting my list of Diablo Cody's 12 films that would be exhibited at the Beverly Cinema, Piper @ Lazy Eye Theater was inspired to create a meme of 12 films for the Beverly.

How could I not participate???

If I were to be able to exhibit 6 double features back to back...here's what I might chose.

Night #1
Forbidden Games (1952)
In America (2003)

Night #2
City of God (2003)
Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

Night #3
Judgment at Nuremberg (1961)
Road to Perdition (2002)

Night #4
Virdiana (1961)
Babette’s Feast (1987)

Night #5
Red Violin (1999)
The Battle of Algiers (1968)

Night #6
Memento (2001)
Rear Window (1954)

What night would you buy tickets for???

I know I'd love to see what type of film schedule these people would create if they were in charge of twelve night of double features the Beverly Cinema would show:(especially Jeff, Darrell, Nathan, Adam, Grete, Glenn, Will, B13, and you!)

I will be joining you on night #6 and will expect a snack that goes with the theme of the movies. I know you would be up for that.

I agree on Night #6, but I wouldn't do Rear Window. I'd do Hitchcock's Rope.

Memento, among other things, was a gimmick film. Entire movie shot backwards in timeline, etc... Rope fit that same "gimmick" genre... the virtual "one take" film. Rear Window is a challenging Hitchcock film... but I don't believe it stands out from the rest of Hitchcock's work - nothing makes it outstanding from the rest of Hitchcock's canon.

Good call. I will mull over my twelve choices.

If I could suggest a seventh day, as hokey as it sounds... Oceans 11 - Rat Pack Version and Oceans 11 - Clooney Version. Love analyzing the changes in the culture over the years... if I was still writing papers, that would be my next one (another blog, maybe?)

This looks like fun. I'll chew on it and try to post something.

The Marriage Circle (1924)

Wed.

Dude, I thought about it all day ... and I got nothin'. I can't come up with a list, six separate parings, that I'm happy with.

Frankly, Rope felt to me like it could have been condensed to fit the half hour timeslot for Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Whereas Rear Window is an amazing film, which requires its feature length. I think that your pairing it with Memento is great.

Yeesh,

Kicking it all off with Forbidden Games? Bring the popcorn and balloons for this fun, fun, fun and happy go lucky movie.

Good list RC. I would buy tickets for nights 2, 3 and 6 but only if the ticket counter would accept my student ID so I could get in cheap.

And thanks for being the inspiration behind this.

I'd buy for night 5 and 6. I'd love to see Memento in the theater again.

Night #1 blows me away. What a great way to start things off.

Night #2 is even better! MD made my list too.

Also, your inclusion of The Red Violin has pushed me to my limit. I will now actually watch this movie.

Sweet list there. I am so out of the movie mode right now with the toddler though, that I will just have to get my movie jones vicariously through places such as this. Keep up the interesting posts.
