Daylight Savings: Playing With Time (Can they Do That?)

Daylight Savings is crazy enough as it is...but did you know that in 2007 Daylight Savings Time will be longer...sure, I didn't get a vote but people are playing with time...

Apparently in 2005 a Federal Law was passed that beginning in 2007 we will set our clocks forward three weeks earlier in (March 11th next year) and one week later ending November 4th.

My guess is that the excuse was to save on energy cost...but who knows? Just a guess. I found out about it at Cave News but I confirmed it at the Astronomical Applications department of the U.S. Navy.

Grete and I forgot today to change our clocks! Yes...we were some of 'those people'. But she was still able to get up and ready for work in 10 minutes!

It was kind of a nice way to handle the time change, though. She still got to work on time, and we still got plenty of sleep. The only hour we lost was that hour of 'getting ready' in the morning. No one likes that hour anyway.

Enough already with the DST!!! I hate it! What a waste o' time (no pun intended) regarding time spent changing clocks and adjusting to the change. It's annoying and pointless. This is no longer an agriculturally-dominant society.

I saw a report about this on the bbc and apparently the biggest concern for businesses is that they have to adjust all of their computers as they are programmed with the old DST times.

This also allows the world to have 25 hours in a day: if Alaska is on daylight saving, I believe it makes it 25 hours ahead of some Pacific islands to the west of the International Date Line!
