Borat smashed the box office again this weekend, with an estiamted $29 million dollar weekend.I've been very surprised at the popularity of Sacha Baron Cohen's movie about a Kazakhstani reporting on American life and culture.
Sarcha Baron Cohen, famous for his HBO comedy/interview program Da Ali G Show, has sneaked his way further into the mainstream this year, not only with his ever popular film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, but also as the gay french race car driver in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.Oscar doesn't typically look to fondly on slap stick far flung comedy, but I've got to wonder, if they would this crazy knuckle head who plays hipster Ali G, Gay frenchman Jean Girard, and Kazakhstani Borat Sagdiyev. Nah, probably not!

It's beleived that the reason why Peter O'Toole has suddenly been switched into being campaigned for the Drama category is so he won't have to contend against Borat for the GG.
i could only hope that borat wins the oscar...one of the better comedies I've seen in a while.
Yeah, Borat is the funniest thing I've seen in a very long time.
I have not yet seen Borat (but it feels like it with the number of clips that have been emailed to me from You Tube.) I don't think he will be nominated for anything. Andy Kauffman did all this kind of thing before, except less people were in on the joke. He never was nominated for anything personally and niether was Jim Carrey when he portrayed him.

A lot of people compare Cohen to Kauffman, but I think there's a big difference. Kauffman seemed to have a lot of contempt for his own audience. Cohen's humor is more obvious, and, to my way of thinking, funnier and actually friendlier. I think Cohen's appeal will exceed Kauffman's and that his fan base will be much broader. I don't think that's a bad thing, either.
Sacha Baron Cohen will probably be assassinated some day soon. Freedom of speech is a myth in America. I hope not, but don't be surprised.
Nothing in the clips I've seen strike me as funny. I for the life of me can't understand the hype.
I've actually seen Cohen compared to Peter Sellers--a chameleon-like funny man who disappears into every role he takes. I think it's a pretty apt comparison--I'm going to be following Cohen's career with interest...
IT;s just comady isnt it. I meen it's not the first time this has happend!! For the record I love satire and think Sasha is great at it.
