Jacob commented in a recent post saying:
"Seriously when is Will Ferrell going to win an Oscar? The man can act. He's got a new movie coming out March 20th. And he can sing and improv, the BEST!!"
Jacob, I'm not really sure why I'm taking the chance to respond to this question, but let me say a few things.
In 2006 and 2007 Will Ferrell received Golden Globe nominations, a supporting actor globe for The Producers, and a Lead Comedy Actor nod for Stranger Than Fiction. This is pretty impressive considering that Ferrell didn't even get a MTV nod in 2006! (Although I'm sure in 2007 he will receive some attention for his work in Talladega Nights).
Ferrell did a great job in Stranger than Fiction, and yet while his performance was dead-on, the film was not a box-office or critical success so lacked the push it needed for Ferrell to receive larger recognition. And even still, there were far more intense and deeper performances by male's this year (had Ferrell been a supporting actress, with this years weak catagory, who know's he could have snuck in...but alas).
Yet if you want to now when Ferrell will even get nominated for an Oscar it will not be anytime soon with his future projects.
Blades of Glory which you mentioned (released March 20th) certainly looks like a Ferrell project as he and Jon Heder (Napolean Dynamite) team up as partner skaters in Canada after being stripped of their Olympic gold medals and being banned from single's competition.
Sorry Jacob, no Academy Award for this project (once again, another MTV award possibility)
How about in 2008? Any Oscar potential for Will Ferrell.
Ferrell's current projects for 2008 include Semi-Pro where Ferrell plays coach/owner/player of a semi-pro basket ball team and co-stars with Will Arnet.
Ferrell's other 2008 project is Step Brothers where he will re-team up with Oscar and Globe nominee John C. Reilly (Chicago). The film deals with two guys (Reilly & Ferrell) who become step-brothers when their parents marry.
Jacob, unfortunatly even Step Brothers with co-star Reilly will more than likely not receive any Academy love, although I'm sure you will love it as director Adam McKay (Anchorman) reteams up with Ferrell. This film for summer 2008 seems like Anchorman meets Talladega Nights. So enjoy, even if Ferrell is not validated with an Oscar nomination. Because you certainly should hold your breath for that happening anytime soon.

Comedians never get no respect.
Really enjoyed this post. I think Ferrell will probably go the Robin Williams route and earn a nod after doing a bunch of serious films in a row. His "serious works" to date, Winter Passing & Stranger than Fiction, are steps in the right direction but both still had elements of comedy.
ok...blades of glory looks very, very funny and i really liked "stranger than fiction." even if he's not an oscar award-winner, ferrell is a great entertainer.
I have a secret crush on Will Ferrell! Guess it's not so much of a secret anymore...
Will Ferrell is a comedic god... he's responsible for some of the funniest characters in recent history. Maybe some day in the distant future he'll get some recognition for some more serious roles, but for now I'll take the funny stuff.
