For as many Christmas-themed movies that come out year after year, there really doesn't seem to be enough Thankgiving movies.If you haven't seen Pieces of April which came in 2003...this may be the year. Peter Hedges' film stars Katie Holmes, Derek Luke, and Patricia Clarkson. (Clarkson, like normal, is great in this film). The film is also a great film about community.
If I had more Thanksgiving films to recommend, I would recommend them...but alas I can't think of any others.

The only other Thanksgiving movie I can think of is one of my favorite comedies, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. I think John Candy was a very underrated actor. Not only is he hilarious in PTaA, but shows he had the chops to be dramatic too. I watch this every Thanksgiving time.

And RC - at least the one thanksgiving movie is a good one. I think "Pieces of April" is a grossly underseen little gem.

I was also trying to think of Thanksgiving movies, and PIECES is indeed a good one.
The only T-day movie I would actually recommend is "Planes, Trains & Automobiles." But there is also the Jodie Foster directed "Home for the Holidays" and "What's Cooking."
Again, the latter two aren't recommendations, just observations.
My favorite Thanksgiving-related bit from a movie is by far the Thanksgiving feast skit in Addams Family Values, an amazing jewel of comedic film.
"Eat me! Sauteed or barbecued. Eat me! We once were pets but now we're food."
Amazing.
There's always "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," which is the ugly stepsister of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
And, sure, "Pieces of April" is pretty good; however, it doesn't really put me in the Thanksgiving spirit. "Groundhog Day" with Bill Murray does a better job of getting its viewers interested in a holiday. Not that the goal of "Pieces of April" is to get its viewers excited about Thanksgiving. All I'm saying is that it would be nice if a film did exist that really could put me in the Thanksgiving mood. I guess that I will just have to settle for the Thanksgiving Day Parade, which I will miss this year because I will be traveling to Grandma Eloe's house.
