My top 20 Films Of the Decade (2000-2009)

In addition to posting my favorite films from the years that end in '0' I thought I would take the chance as one decade closes out and the other begins to share my favorite films of the decade.

Obviously, been a number of great films, and I was tempted to make it a top 50, but decided to keep it at a tight-20 films, although it's hard to leave some films off the list.

Below are my top 20 films of the aughts.

1. In America (2003)
2. City of God (2003)
3. Ratatouille (2007)
4. The Lord of the Rings:The Return of the King (2003)
5. Memento (2001)
6. Hotel Rwanda (2004)

8. The Motorcycles Diaries (2004)
9. Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
10. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings (2001)
11. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)

Nice list, though I disagree with 9 and 19, and didn't see 20. What I like about your list is how many small films are here. Love the inclusion of An Education which I think just may be my favourite of the year, thus far [you can go read my pandering review].

Hotel Rwanda and Road to Perdition wouldn't make my list, but they are pleasant surprises, as is Finding Neverland.

PS. Happy New Year!!!

My wife and I were just talking about renting The Lives of Others again. Possibly the best politically themed film I've ever seen. And we love, love, love The Painted Veil. Simultaneously romantic and chilling.

It surprises me that In America is number one. Haven't seen a lot of them.

Thanks for this list! Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do on my viewing. New Years Resolution: watch more movies.

@ Andrew - thanks for sharing...I hate doing list about "last years" films when I feel like so many of them that could make the list are films I haven't quite yet seen, but I don't think any film from 2009 will likely top An Education UNLESS there is a suprise foreign language film that hasn't received it's due exposure.

@ Loren - glad to here your love for the lives of others, but even more so The Painted Veil, what a surprisingly great film. It is an absolute favorite (obviously)

Like seeing In America get some love, and I have City of God in my top spot so I enjoy its ranking here. Also, nice to see United 93 on one of these lists - it's definitely in my top 10.
