I admit, I'm sick.No. I don't have Swine Flu, but while I can't help but think the Swine Flu Hype is just that...hype, I can't help but check the Wikipedia page for the 2009 Swine Flu Outbreak and the 2009 swine flu outbreak in the United States.
I like these pages because they have numbers and maps.
The maps on this page were pulled off the site just now. By tomorrow they will surely be different. The yellow states/countries represent suspected cases. Some will turn red. The red states and countries represent confirmed cases of the H1N1/Swine flu virus.I hope that no more states or countries turn "black" signifying death by Swine Flu, and I hope that the health crisis, specifically in Mexico City is reigned in.
But beyond those hopes, I think the Swine Flu is out of control.One kid with a suspected case of this strand of flu and the whole school gets let out for the day, or maybe even weeks. It's pretty crazy, especially since recent cases have been comparable to a typical flu (not a lot of fun, but part of the human experience, I suppose).
All the same I can't keep on looking at the numbers, the maps, and checking to see how the numbers are adjusting. I'm an obsessive-compulsive checker sometimes. I check by blog stats, I check my library holds, I check my checking account, I don't know what I'm waiting to appear but when I am checking this or that stat on a regular basis I can tend to get addicted.
Recently, I'm addicted to those wikipedia pages with up to date Swine flu facts. I love table, graphs, and maps. This is my true confession.

All FWISD schools shut down (80,000+ kids) and my school too. We actually had three people get sick with possible swine flu during the TAKS test Wed. and all of them had been around people traveling from Mexico. Now we have a week paid off work, with no need to make up the time later. The state of Texas said that anyone canceling school will be exempt from make up days. I'd hate to be the person to try to figure out what to do with all the TAKS tests that got canceled, especially with some due to graduate in June if they pass.

I think in retrospect Fort Worth ISD's decision will be viewed is an overreaction, if it's not already.
You read stories were one kid at the school has a "suspected case" of Swine flu and the whole school is dismissed.
They don't dismiss school when a kid comes down with any other sort of disease...and Swine flu has not proved to be any more fatal then the regular flu we see every flu season.
Wikipedia should produce a map showing the distribution of swine-flu-map addiction.
Don't fear -- the swine flu and the pandemic of media hype will fade away soon enough. The piggy will be off your back then.
I'm in Dallas, my daughter's friend has it in their family, but so far nothing tragic...just a fever..and they are taking med's. I had a post about this...just stay sanitized and vigilant, that's all you can do. There may be more to this then what I see though...I mean...they really been overly aggressive about this in the media and gvmt's worldwide it seem's, so I wonder if there is something we dont know about this?
